Gevrey-Chambertin 1° Cru – Les Champeaux

“Champeaux” comes from the word “Champs” used by the Gaulois. This very old climate has remained wild with its walls out of dried stone and its winegrowers’ shelters. Hundreds of vines planted on terraces are located here and the soils are most especially red. The parent rock is close by with violet coloured veins. The soil, some 20 to 40 cm deep, is very stony.

It is unquestionable that this premier cru has now reached the level of a grand cru. The use of a horse to plough the soils is starting to pay off – the wine is even more expressive and longer. The colour is dark and deep. The tannins lightly coat the palate. The end finishes with fresh berry scents. This is a complete wine from the attack to the finish. It is a great age worthy wine.
